GAO Releases Runway Safety Report

GAO today released “Aviation Runway and Ramp Safety: Sustained Efforts to Address Leadership, Technology, and Other Challenges Needed to Reduce Accidents and Incidents.” Download the 92-page .PDF here.
Meantime, FAA has released this fact sheet on runway safety, and another on controller staffing and fatigue.

FAA Engineering Brief: Safer Taxiways and Aprons

FAA has released Engineering Brief No. 75: Incorporation of Runway Incursion Prevention into Taxiway and Apron Design. The 19-page .PDF “provides interim guidance” on designing taxiway and apron improvements with the goal of minimizing runway incursions. The guidance will be worked into the new AC 150/5300-13, “Airport Design,” which is being re-written.
