ACRP SMS Overview Report Out
By Sean Broderick | September 24, 2007
If you work at a Part 139 airport, you’d be wise to familiarize yourself with this recently released report (.pdf). It was produced by the Transportation Research Board’s Airport Cooperative Research Program, or ACRP (AAAE has an ex officio board seat on its oversight committee). The report is an overview of safety management systems (SMS) for airports, and has both background on existing SMS requirements as well some lessons-learned from airports outside the U.S. that have implemented SMSs.
ARCP also released this online-only supplement (.pdf) that has details from interviews conducted during research for the report.
FAA is, of course, working on a rulemaking that will mandate SMSs for Part 139 airports.
